Southampton Itchen MP John Denham is to open an event where young people, aged 15-18, can quiz experts and debate what to do about climate change. The Labour MP, who is
Secretary of State for Innovation Universities and Skills, will be open the event, at the Hampshire Cricket Club’s Rosebowl at 9:30 on Monday 10 March 10th.
The invited audience will be asked whether it is the government’s responsibility to tackle climate change or if individuals have to take action themselves. The youngsters will
be polled on their initial opinions and then again after a debate.
Experts from Southampton Solent University, Friends of the Earth, the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, and Hampshire County Council will help the
debate. As well as having the opportunity to explore the issue of climate change, the young people will also be the subject of research into the method used to obtain their opinions.
